A linear yard is 36 inches measured along the roll at the fabric's listed width. Before ordering, confirm the sales unit, minimum quantity, cut format, current width and return terms on the exact product page or with NY Tarp.
What “by the yard” means
- Linear yard — one yard (36 inches) measured along the roll. The width is fixed by the fabric (for example 58–61"), so one yard gives you a piece that wide.
- Sales unit — some products are sold by the yard, while others use fixed cut lengths or finished sizes.
- Continuous cut — if one unbroken piece matters, confirm it before ordering. Do not infer it only from quantity.
How to place the order
- Work out the yardage you need (see how much fabric you need), then add 10–20% for waste, seams and mistakes.
- Check the fabric’s width on the product page and confirm it suits your pattern pieces.
- If you are matching an existing color or pattern, ask whether a sample is available. Screens do not show fabric color accurately.
- Confirm the cut format before placing a large order.
Cut fabric and returns
Return rules for cut material can differ from stocked goods. Read the current store policy and confirm any project-specific requirement before the fabric is cut.
Frequently asked
Can I order a partial yard? Check the product page or ask NY Tarp for the current minimum and increment.
Will the color match my screen? Approximately. Tweeds and textured weaves especially photograph differently from daylight. Order a sample if the match matters.
Do you cut to a specific dimension? Use the custom quote form when you need a fabricated cover or a cut outside the listed sales unit.
