Project planning tool

Estimate the fabric before you order.

Enter the finished dimensions of your panels, the roll width, seam allowance, and a realistic waste allowance. The calculator returns a practical starting estimate in linear yards and square yards.

This is an estimating tool, not a nesting optimizer. Confirm the exact construction, usable width, grain direction, and material with NY Tarp before ordering.

Step 1

Calculate yardage

Use inches for every measurement. Add one row for each different panel or piece.

Measure with confidence

A short guide before you buy

Good measurements make the conversation easier. If the project is irregular, expensive, or exposed to weather, send a sketch or photo and ask us to review the estimate before ordering.

01

Measure the finished piece

Measure the longest finished length and width of each panel. For an existing cover, measure the cover itself rather than guessing from the object underneath.

02

Separate panels by shape

List rectangles, gussets, flaps, pockets, and reinforcement pieces separately. For curves or odd shapes, use the smallest rectangle that contains the piece and add extra waste.

03

Respect usable width

Edges, coatings, selvage, pattern direction, and defects can reduce usable width. The product page or a fabric specialist should confirm the number used in your final order.

04

Plan the finish

Tell us whether the piece needs hems, grommets, binding, zippers, hook-and-loop, pockets, straps, or reinforcement. Finishing changes both the cut plan and the material choice.

When the calculator is not enough

Custom work needs a conversation.

For a fitted cover, complicated pattern, large order, or material you have not used before, send the material, dimensions, quantity, intended use, deadline, and a photo or sketch. We would rather help you confirm the cut than have you order the wrong material.
