Duvetyne is a matte, brushed masking cloth used where reflections and unwanted sightlines must be controlled. The name is not a complete specification. Before ordering, compare the exact weight, width, fiber, finish, cut length, opacity requirement, and any treatment documentation required by the venue.
Duvetyne and commando cloth
Theatrical suppliers commonly use duvetyne for lighter masking cloth and commando cloth for a heavier version with greater opacity. Those labels are not precise enough by themselves. A buyer should still record the listed ounces per square yard, width, fiber, finish, and sales format for the exact item.

Planning the order
- Measure the opening and add the overlap needed at seams and edges.
- Keep nap direction consistent when adjacent panels must read as one surface.
- Confirm whether the listed dimensions describe raw cloth or a finished panel.
- Ask for current treatment documentation before ordering when a venue requires it.
- Do not infer FR, NFPA 701, or another rating from the words “duvetyne” or “commando cloth.”
